Designing Through Equity
2021 Fall Webinar Series

About the series

For organizations engaging in diversity, equity, and inclusion work, it can be hard to envision what the work looks like in practice for specific areas. While the work is inherently and necessarily expansive, actual movement requires that we take steps forward toward action. But there is a space between the macro and micro--the theory and the action--that many organizations can speed through or skip altogether. That space represents an area of design that engenders the necessary conditions for meaningful actions to take root and thrive. This webinar series will hone in on three areas that we at True North EDI have come across in our consulting practice that represent both tension and growth for many of our clients. Each webinar will be an opportunity to hear our experiences and recommendations for best practices, to learn and engage with promising equity-centered frameworks, and to ask questions of our expert consultants.

Sharing, ceding, and yielding:
Exploring equitable and responsive transitions of power

Be it calls for leaders to step down or for decision-making processes to be more inclusive and equitable, True North EDI has witnessed meaningful requests for change be met with resistance, defensiveness, and oftentimes, paralysis. This workshop is designed to empower, 1) organizational stakeholders who are grappling with what it means to craft or deliver a call for change, and 2) leaders or powered-up individuals who are being asked to cede or take part in the redesigning of power structures. We will share our learnings and experience on what it looks like to move through the tension that accompanies change and toward the potential for meaningful transformation.
In this webinar, you will gain:
  • A values-based process for approaching equitable transitions of power
  • Shared language for transitioning power through an equity lens
  • Case studies around the pitfalls and possibilities that have emerged at other organizations when power is examined
  • A toolkit for further reflection on addressing equity within your organization

Transforming Conflict in the Workplace

Picture
How does your organization view conflict? One of the biggest obstacles to transformative DEI work is the lack of a comprehensive, values-based approach to interpersonal conflict and healing after harm has occurred. A strong power lens, essential to equity work, also complicates our understanding of how we address wrongdoing, who carries the most risk and what needs arise when harm happens.  Conflict Transformation models view conflict as a dynamic, generative human experience that is essential to individual and community growth. This series will guide DEI ambassadors, team leaders and people managers in a process of shifting our mindset around conflict and designing asset-based approaches to building community and repairing harm in ways that align with equity values. In this webinar, you will gain:
  • Fluency around conflict styles, power dynamics and restorative mindsets for addressing harm
  • Shared language for creating pathways towards collective healing
  • A workbook for approaching conflict through conflict transformation models in the workplace
