Hiring EDI Facilitator/Consultant (Contractor)
Who We Are:
True North EDI consultants/facilitators play the role of both guide and companion for institutions seeking to disrupt the deep-seated practices, policies, and cultures that harm historically marginalized populations. We are a small, but rapidly expanding team made up of passionate, joyous, and imperfect individuals, with a wide array of expertise.
True North EDI (Equity, Diversity, Interdependence) is a New York-based, Black-owned consulting firm founded in 2018. Our guiding belief is that organizational transformation can only happen through deep and informed reflection on the ways in which identity, history, and power intersect and impact our lives. Our approach centers wholeness and balance and leverages the knowledge, lived experiences, and expertise that exist within organizations to provide solutions for the cultural, institutional, and structural issues they seek to address.
We facilitate workshops and trainings, coach and develop teams and leaders, and consult and support organizational change processes.
We are looking for facilitator/consultants who:
Typical responsibilities may include:
How we work: Currently we are an entirely remote organization, with all internal and external meetings and sessions held virtually. This will likely last into the first half of 2021, before we reassess the state of the world. The majority of our facilitation is carried out in partnership with at least two facilitators working on any given project. As the majority of our current and past clients are based in the U.S., that is the historical and institutional context within which we generally operate. That said, calls for work in other parts of the world have increased and we are equally excited to speak with individuals whose expertise lies in the nuances of non-U.S. contexts..
Location & Travel: The firm is based in NYC, but the location of consultants is flexible. Possibility of travel post-COVID 19 aka the new world.
Compensation:
We acknowledge the importance of understanding what compensation will look like when identifying potential employment opportunities. Our facilitators are compensated on a project rate basis. We use a tiered compensation model that takes into consideration the length and scope of projects, as well as the necessary consultant planning and development time.
As an example, a large portion of our work is currently being delivered virtually in 3-hour sessions, and the current facilitator rate for that is $1100 (including preparation time). Hopefully this offers some context as to how we compensate. There is no way to guarantee the amount of work as of this time but we are seeking to expand our team because we have all reached capacity if that is any indication.
If this work speaks to you, please send the below materials to info@truenorthedi.com with the subject line: TNEDI Consultant 2020
Submission deadline: October 15, 2020
Decisions regarding next steps are expected October 31, 2020 - and we will reach out if we are interested in moving to the next phase with you.
As a Black-owned business, True North EDI is excited to bring on folx who represent the full spectrum of the BIPOC community. White-identifying individuals with a strong background and passion for facilitating anti-racism dialogue and processes are also encouraged to apply. We are looking for facilitator/consultants who:
- Bring both compassion and accountability to spaces they create
- Are able to captivate an audience with the energy they bring. (This doesn’t mean extroverts or being over-the-top!)
- Skillfully facilitate authentic and intentional conversations around the many manifestations of systemic and institutional oppression and justice
- Hold space for tension and encourage forward movement
- Take the abstract and transform it into actionable steps, practices, and policies
- Have a deep understanding of the histories of systems and topics on which they are facilitating
- Are attracted to an approach to organizational change that balances the intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual (not religion but connectedness to anything we feel is bigger than us individually)
- Bring laughter and joy, while recognizing the weight and stakes of our work
- Collaborate supportively and generously with a co-facilitator to model partnership and relationship in the context of justice-centered work
Typical responsibilities may include:
- Facilitation of small- and large-group workshops (virtually and in-person)
- Designing, co-creating, and implementing True North EDI content covering a range of areas, skills, and competencies related to equity, justice, diversity, and inclusion/interdependence
- Leading focus groups, affinity spaces, and other small-group sharing circles
- Coaching leaders and teams to surface and design equity-centered practices
- Guiding organizations in the development of long-term/comprehensive EDI planning processes (e.g. strategic planning, development of mission/vision/values language, organizational equity audits)
- Contributing to the True North EDI team through the development of resources and tools
- See something missing that you know you bring? We can’t wait to learn more.
